Fr Johnson who was Pastor here at St Patrick’s Parish, died in Rockhampton Queensland earlier this week. He spent many of his years as a priest working in Sydney even though he belonged to the Rockhampton Diocese. He was 94 years of age. He entered a seminary in Rome to study for the priesthood when he was 14 years of age. He obtained a Doctorate in Rome and went on to study in Leuven University in Belgium. He was ordained a priest in 1946 on St Patrick’s Day. Probably, because it was the feast day of his ordination, he requested to become the pastor of St Patrick’s parish Mortlake in 1998. He remained with us until 1999. He then decided to return to Rockhampton and retire from active ministry. May Grove rest in peace after 72 years’ service as a priest. His funeral was celebrated in Rockhampton Cathedral on Thursday last.
